The VCCJA Training Committee has several training responsibilities. One of the primary responsibilities of the Training Committee is to maintain Basic Skills for CCCA and PSA staff. In addition, the Training Committee provides statewide regional training and other relevant training opportunities.

Basic Skills training is offered by DCJS quarterly to all newly hired Directors, Probation and Pretrial Officers;, attendance is mandatory.

Regional Training usually consists of a single training topic offered to all four VCCJA regions, typically in May. The Training committee is responsible for selecting the topics, registration, securing speakers and facilities, and collecting evaluations for this training.

The Training Committee has established several goals for 2010. Those goals are as follows:

Enhance the quality of training offered by the Training Committee.

  1. Review and evaluate Basic Skills and actively address issues that arise during the year.
  2. Provide Regional and Administrative Professional Training.
  3. Partner with other VCCJA Committees to provide training as needed.
  4. Evaluate and expand training opportunities statewide.
  5. Review and reevaluate the Training Committee budget each quarter.

To accomplish these goals we currently have established four Sub-Committees:

  1. Mentoring Program for Directors Sub-Committee
  2. Administrative Professional Training Sub-Committee
  3. Basic Skills Sub-Committee
  4. Command Spanish Sub-Committee

The Mentoring Program for Directors Sub-Committee focuses on identifying potential mentors, preparing instruction manuals and developing onsite training agendas.

The Administrative Professional Training Sub-Committee addresses training issues specific to Administrative Staff, which are often the first point of agency contact. The sub-committee is responsible for implementing appropriate training for Administrative Professional Staff.

The Basic Skills Sub-Committee is responsible for implementing Basic Skills training, in addition to auditing the curriculum and making changes, as necessary.

The Command Spanish Sub-Committee is newly formed and responsible for identifying a need for the training and matching those needs with training sites. Other duties include coordinating registration with the Cultural Awareness Committee.

The Co-Chairs of the VCCJA Training Committee are Imrie Worley and Jennifer MacArthur. The committee meets at least quarterly, generally in Farmville VA. Anyone interested in joining the Training Committee should contact:
